A hotel CFO in Gurgaon recently asked her housekeeping director why the monthly bill for one bathroom cleaner — the daily-use product, applied twice a day to every guest bathroom — was higher than the spend on guest-room slippers. Fair question. The product was Taski R1, and R1 has been in the trolley of every Indian three-star and above for so long that most procurement files just have it pre-typed as a fixed cost.
UCLIPSE U1 is what we built for the housekeeping director who wants to give the CFO a better answer.
Where R1 sits in the housekeeping system
R1 is Diversey's daily-use bathroom cleaner. It is the product the housekeeping team applies on every shift to ceramic tile, sanitary ware, chrome fittings, washbasins and shower areas — the regular wipe-down that keeps a guest bathroom looking like a guest bathroom. The chemistry is alkaline-built, surfactant-driven, with a fragrance load tuned for hospitality use. It removes daily soil — soap film, body oils, fingerprints, light grime — without stressing the chrome and glass surfaces it touches twice a day, every day, for years.
That is the right chemistry for the daily slot. The acid system you sometimes see described in domestic toilet cleaners belongs in the periodic descale slot — once-a-week, once-a-month — not the daily one. (For that periodic slot, see the companion product UCLIPSE U9, which is the acidic side of the system.)
R1 works for the daily slot. That has never been in dispute. The dispute is the price per litre, the import-tax stack-up, and the fact that a single multinational holds the entire colour-coded bathroom-care line.
What U1 actually is
UCLIPSE U1 is an alkaline daily-use bathroom cleaner concentrate manufactured at our ISO 9001:2015 facility in Gurgaon, Haryana. The chemistry is built around a non-ionic and amphoteric surfactant blend, mildly alkaline pH (around 9.5–10.5 in concentrate, working pH 8–9 at typical 1:20 dilution), with a fragrance package tuned to hospitality. The cleaner lifts daily soap film, body oils, light grime and fingerprints without etching chrome or hazing glass shower screens — which is the failure mode that disqualifies the wrong chemistry for daily use.
Same dilution band as R1 (1:10 to 1:40 depending on soil). Same trolley slot. Same cycle. The differences live in two places — the supply chain (we ship factory-direct from Gurgaon, no import-tax stack-up) and the packaging range (1 L, 5 L, 25 L and 200 L drums, so a 400-room property can bypass 5 L jerry cans entirely).

Why daily-use chemistry has to be alkaline (or near-neutral), not acidic
The reason matters because the trade is real. A daily-use bathroom cleaner is applied to chrome washbasin spouts, chrome shower-mixer trim and glass shower screens twice a day, every day, for years. Repeat exposure of these surfaces to a strong acid system pits the chrome and hazes the glass within nine to fifteen months. Hotels that have run an acidic product as a daily-use cleaner usually pay for it in chrome replacement on a 24-month cycle instead of a six-year cycle.
A daily product has to be:
- Effective on the soils that actually accumulate daily — soap film, body oils, light grime, fingerprints, fragrance maintenance
- Safe on chrome and glass under twice-a-day exposure for years
- Easy on the housekeeping team's skin and respiratory system across full shifts (the team handles this product more than any other on the trolley)
The alkaline-surfactant chemistry of U1 is built for this brief. The acidic chemistry of U9 (and consumer-grade toilet cleaners) is built for the periodic descale slot — limescale, hard-water spots, rust streaks — and belongs there, not in the daily rotation.
A note on chrome and on the smell
Two things housekeeping captains check on a new daily-use bathroom cleaner: does it stress chrome over time, and does the bathroom smell like a hotel afterwards rather than a sanitiser plant. We tuned U1 deliberately on both. The mild alkalinity plus the surfactant package leaves chrome and glass unmarked across thirty days of overnight contact in our in-house wear tests — and then across years of cycle use in the field. The fragrance is a clean lemon-eucalyptus profile — recognisable as housekeeping, not industrial.
Switching is one shift
The fastest properties to switch are the ones with a strong housekeeping captain. Order one 5 L jerry can, give it to the captain along with a copy of your existing R1 SOP card, run U1 on one wing while the other wing keeps R1. Next morning's pre-shift review, the captain has an opinion. Forty out of forty-three properties we have piloted with so far have switched within six weeks of that first jerry can. The remaining three were stuck on a corporate procurement freeze, not on product performance.
What R1 still does better
It would be dishonest not to mention this. R1 has Diversey's training and SOP infrastructure built around it for two decades — wall charts, audit checklists, certified trainers. If your property is in a chain that audits to a Diversey-aligned spec, swapping requires updating the SOP card and getting your trainer comfortable with U1. That is a couple of hours of paperwork, not a months-long project, but it is real work.
Pair U1 with the rest of the bathroom-care system
A complete UCLIPSE bathroom-care system covers the daily slot, the periodic-descale slot, the toilet bowl specialty and washroom freshening:
- U1 — alkaline regular daily-use (this product)
- U9 — acidic periodic descaler (limescale, hard-water spots, rust)
- U6 — toilet bowl specialty for under-the-rim work
- U5 — washroom air freshening

How to get a sample
Free 5 L trial packs to qualified hotel chains, FM companies and distributors. Drop us a note with your property name, location and rough monthly R1 consumption, or call us on +91 93110 70085. We answer in housekeeping-shift hours, not banker hours. If U1 doesn't deliver the same surface clean side-by-side with your current R1, you don't pay for the trial pack. That offer has been on the table since the day we shipped the first batch and it is staying on the table.
